Serbia’s protesting university students demanded Monday that those responsible for the presence of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and media crews in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the University Clinical Center of Serbia (UKCS) on March 17 be identified. Patients injured in the North Macedonia nightclub fire had been admitted to this unit.

“Our sixth demand is addressed to the relevant authorities, namely to UKCS Director Jelena Drulovic, UKCS Emergency Center Director Marko Ercegovac and the Head of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Dusan Micic," Medical Faculty student Jana Nedeljkovic told N1.

She added the demand is addressed to them because “the lives of patients from North Macedonia were put at risk, as there were individuals in the intensive care unit who were not adequately equipped to be there.”

“We are demanding oversight of operations and an emergency inspection, and based on their findings, if necessary, the initiation of legal proceedings against the healthcare institutions, responsible officials, and healthcare workers who allowed those individuals to be in the intensive care unit,” Jana Nedeljkovic told N1.

On April 4 the student protesters presented their fifth demand - a detailed investigation into the alleged use of a sonic weapon during a mass protest in Belgrade on March 15.

The initial demands were focused on accountability for the collapse of the concrete canopy at Novi Sad Railway Station which claimed 16 lives and assaults on students at the start of the protests – the release of all documents covering the reconstruction of the railway station, identifying and processing the people who assaulted the students, throwing out the indictments of arrested protesters and higher budgets for university-level education.
