Protesting students in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad ushered in the New Year according to the Julian calendar with 15 Minutes of Silence on the Petrovaradin fortress.

The 15 Minutes of Silence memorial protest for the 15 people killed by a collapsed concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station on November 1, began at 11:52 pm with the crowd holding up their mobile phones with lights on.

A Serbian flag was put up on the main gate of the fortress along with a white flag with the red hand symbol of the protest which started to demand justice for the victims and accountability for the people responsible for the shoddy reconstruction of the railway station. Protesters also shout Your Hands Are Bloody at gatherings staged by students.

The students also sang Vostani Serbije (Rise Serbia), a song based on a poem written by Serbian educator and philosopher Dositej Obradovic at the time of the first Serbian uprising against the Ottoman turks in the early 19th century.

Students also threw fake money with an image of President Aleksandar Vucic and the numeral Zero on them.
