Three months into the student protests and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic seems to be getting support from allies in Moscow and Beijing as well as in Washington.
Speaking at a news conference called to address the protesters and their demand for accountability for the 15 deaths in the collapse of a concrete awning at Novi Sad Railway Station, Vucic repeated the words of the US President’s special advisor Richard Grenell that Washington does not support those who undermine the rule of law or who forcefully take over government buildings.
Serbian students have taken over their university schools and made demands which include accountability for the deaths of 15 people in the collapse of a concrete awaning at Novi Sad Railway Station. Vucic keeps claiming that the demands have been met.
Grenell’s post drew heated reactions from students who flooded his account with messages „that this is not a color revolution“ and „that no one is directing them from America“, as the Serbian authorities have been claiming. Vucic personally said that there can be no doubt that a colored revolution is underway.
The student protests were also condemned by Vucic’s allies in Russia and China.
In Moscow, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that the West is trying to change the will of voters following every round of elections in Serbia and supports NGO’s and activists who promote Western ideolology.
In Beijing, Zakharova’s Chinese counterpart Mao Ning said that the Chinese authorities always supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia and that Belgrade has enough wisdom and capacity to preserve peace and stability in society and continue development.
