Teachers to stage warning strike on first day of school

Jasna Jankovic, an official of the Union of Education Workers, said that teachers are facing a deteriorating situation and are demanding a 20 percent pay rise. The union also wants the number of students limited to 24 per homeroom class and the involvement of teachers in drafting amendments to laws and decrees of importance to both students and teachers, Jankovic said.

She said that large-scale protests and strikes are an option only once the new government is formed and a new education minister appointed.
