Tensions ran high in Zajecar and Kosjeric during the local election vote on Sunday escalating into pushing and shoving with police and confrontations between opposition activists and regime supporters.
In Kosjeric, a police/gendarmerie cordon helped a column of vehicles leave an alleged Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) logistics center at a privately-owned factory. Opposition activists said that the vehicles did not have local license plates.
Opposition official Radomir Lazovic MP was knocked down by a car claimed to be driven by regime supporters.
In Zajecar, a police cordon was deployed to separate opposition supporters and SNS activists. Opposition supporters and activists gathered in a central square to celebrate their proclaimed victory.
Local opposition officials told reporters that local SNS officials were not celebrating and were meeting in their party offices before President Aleksandar Vucic declared victory.
