Tepic warns of danger from power plant, ministry says fear-mongering
Opposition MP Marinika Tepic accused Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic of endangering lives by hiding warnings from the Chinese company building a new block at the Kostolac power plant, prompting accusations of fear-mongering from the Energy Ministry.
“Aleksandar Vucic is endangering people’s health because he has been hiding the fact that the Chinese CMEC company, which is building block B3 in Kostolac, informed the EPS (national power company) that B3 can’t be operational before July 2024 even though its opening is being planned,” Tepic told N1 on Monday.
According to Tepic, the B3 block at the Kostolac thermal power plant can’t start operation because it is unsafe. “That is what CMEC says and it informed the EPS on July 19… Vucic announced the opening of the block recently and I sent him an open letter … a warning no to do that because we know that millions of lives will be in danger because there are no filters,” she said.
The Mining and Energy Ministry reacted to her words in a press release which said that the construction is underway at the dfined pace and accusing the deputy leader of the Party of Freedom and Justice (SSP) of spreading panic. “The contractor company, overseer and all competent bodies are doing everything to complete the project and give the citizens of Serbia another stable source of electricity,” the press release said.
The ministry denied the possibility of the block becoming operational contrary to regulations.
