Theater troupes started a week-long strike in support of the protesting students’ demands in several cities across Serbia.
The strike was launched in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Sombor, Zrenjanin and Kragujevac.
A statement said that “Serbian theaters have decided on this step for the first time in their history, accepting the call of the students to fight for institutions and responsibility, aware that we have seen the collapse of all, including cultural, institutions in this society for decades”. “The students reminded us of responsibility and encouraged us to self-organize to start active participation in creating a better society within our professions and institutions,” it said.
The striking theater troupes said they would organize a protest march on Tuesday, February 11 from the St Sava Temple at 12:30 pm.
