Protesters wrapped red thread across the doors of the pro-regime tabloid that published an interview with a serial rapist in central Belgrade on Friday.

The Informer tabloid interviewed a serial rapist recently released after serving a 15 year sentence, drawing anger and causing concern among women across the country. Tabloid owner Dragan J. Vucicevic claimed that the rapist was arrested after the interview because he reported him to the police for harassing the female reporters who interviewed him. Friday’s was the third protest in front of the tabloid offices.

The protesters chanted Women’s Revolution, Educate Your Sons, You’ll Burn in Our Anger, Keep Quiet and the Evil Grows. Organizers said the protest was staged because Informer did not remove the interview from its web site and YouTube channel. They also demanded that the authorities set up a registry of rapists and men who assault women.

Only two uniformed police officers were present but protesters reported seeing officers in plain clothes as well.
