Thousands sign petition to release Novi Sad student

Jovicic, a 22 year old Novi Sad University student, was arrested on August 15 and ordered into detention for 30 days accused of trashing ruling SNS party offices. A court extended the detention order for another 30 days on September 11 and he started a hunger strike the next day in Novi Sad’s Klisa prison. Jovicic’s father died while he was in detention and the prison authorities did not inform him of the fact for 5 days when he was allowed to attend the funeral in leg shackles.

The online petition was signed by 42,400 people as of Monday morning since it was put up on Friday.
