A joint Declaration of the European and Serbian parliaments within the EU-Serbia Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC) was adopted Thursday in Strasbourg, but was not backed by the Democratic Party (DS), People’s Party (NS) and Together party, as their representatives abstained from the vote, said these parties in a press release.

Since none of the amendments of the opposition, referring to the state of democracy, rule of law, media freedom and captured institutions, were considered, members of the Committee from the opposition parties in the Serbian Parliament, comprising the Democratic Party, People’s Party and Together, did not support this Declaration.

„Due to our sincere commitment to the European Union integration process and because of the refusal to improve the text so that it reflects a more realistic state of democracy in Serbia, we did not vote against the Declaration, but we abstained, hoping that the next Declaration, in six months’ time, will take into account real social conditions and highlight all the problems our citizens are faced with,“ said the press release.

Delegations of the European Parliament and the National Parliament of the Republic of Serbia met on 23-24 November, for the 14th meeting of the EU Serbia Stabilization and Association Parliamentary Committee (SAPC).
