Union rep says bus companies warned not to drive teachers to protest
An official of the Union of Education Workers told N1 that bus companies have been warned not to drive teachers to Belgrade for a protest.
Union official Vladan Ciric said police officers and agents from the country’s top security agency (BIA) warned the transport companies not to take teachers to the Serbian capital.
“We have been informed that inspectors visited them and told them not to drive to the protest. The situation is similar in other cities. I contacted Kragujevac and their transport companies were told not to drive the teachers,” he said.
N1 contacted the police in Nis and the BIA media service for comments but got no reply.
Earlier, the Serbian government offered teachers a pay raise of 11 percent next year and a single payment of 15,000 Dinars (1 Euro – 117 Dinars). Teachers’ unions staged protests and strikes across the country in the past two months.
