The UGS called the gathering on Thursday May 1 at 11:30 AM at a monument to Dimitrije Tucovic, an early 20th century fighter for workers’ rights, a statement said. Tucovic was buried in the small park in the center of Slavija square but his remains and monument were moved to make way for a fountain.
It added that the gathering will observe the 16 Minutes of Silence on the six-month anniversary of the collapse of a concrete canopy at Novi Sad Railway Station that claimed 16 lives.
The UGS statement recalled that 59 people lost their lives at their workplace or as a consequence of on the job injuries in 2024.
Slavija square was the site of one of the biggest gatherings in the Serbian capital as part of the students protests to demand accountability for the Novi Sad tragedy.
