The 5 biggest unions in Serbia expressed their support for the protesting university students following a meeting at Belgrade University’s School of Philosophy.

The 5 unions were invited to a meeting on Saturday at the School of Philosophy by the students. The leaders of the Sloga, Alliance of Independent Unions, United Branch Unions Nezavisnost, Association of Free and Independent Unions and Confederation of Free Unions had not met for a long time but agreed to come to the meeting. A joint press release issued by the unions said that they decided to stand together to work on amendments to the Labor Law and Law on Strikes.

“We are expressing clear support to the students and their demands,” the Sloga union said.
The unions decided to pool their efforts and form a working group of lawyers to draft proposals and harmonize the union demands. The working group’s first meeting will be later this week at Belgrade University Law School.
