
The University of Belgrade said Tuesday that its leadership met with representatives of relevant ministries as part of a series of meetings held since 2022 with the aim to resolve issues in higher education in Serbia.
“The meeting addressed future changes and additions to the Law on Higher Education, and the draft that the extended Rector’s Board submitted to the Ministry of Education on December 2024, and additions to the draft submitted in February 2025,” the University of Belgrade said on its website.
The extended Rector’s Board adopted a conclusion on February 13 regarding the principles that must underlie institutional solutions related to funding higher education, including the fourth protesting students’ demand for a 20 percent increase in the budget for higher education.
Students who took over their colleges as part of protests over the deaths of 15 people at Novi Sad Railway Station made 4 demands which included a 20 percent raise in financing for universities.
