More than 2,300 university professors in Serbia signed an initiative seeking a constitutional review of the government regulation on working conditions at universities and university schools and colleges, which alters the structure of working hours for teachers and associates, said a press release.
The initiative was launched by the University of Belgrade and has garnered support not only from professors at that institution but also from those at the universities in Novi Sad and Nis, the State University in Novi Pazar, and the University of Pristina, temporarily based in Kosovska Mitrovica.
The initiative calls for the suspension of actions and measures taken based on the contested regulation pending a final decision by the Constitutional Court. It also proposes a determination that the mentioned regulation is entirely inconsistent with the Law on the Government, the Law on Higher Education, ratified international treaties, and generally accepted principles of international law.
