Head of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Caroline Ziadeh on Thursday expressed concern about the Kosovo authorities’ actions against Serbia-funded institutions across Kosovo, and reiterated her calls for outstanding issues to be discussed constructively and in good faith within the European Union (EU)-facilitated Dialogue.
After the Kosovo authorities on Wednesday closed all municipal and Post Office buildings in the Serbian system south of the Ibar River, Ziadeh warned that “such unilateral actions risk further erosion of trust between communities and Kosovo authorities,” said UNMIK.
Ziadeh expressed concern about the impact of these closures on the daily lives of individuals, especially those from non-majority communities, who directly depend on these institutions.
She urged all to work towards negotiated and sustainable solutions for the well-being and security of all people in Kosovo as the only acceptable path ahead.
Kosovo’s Minister of Internal Affairs Xhelal Svecla said Wednesday that members of the Internal Affairs Ministry and other ministries closed 10 “parallel Serbian institutions” south of the bridge over the Ibar River – in Lipljan, Obilic, Pristina, Kosovo Polje, Vucitrn, Novo Brdo, Kamenica, Vitina, Orahovac and Srbica, stressing that this ends “the era of Serbia’s parallel and criminal municipalities” in Kosovo.
