A man suspected of making an arson threat against the daily Danas has been identified, his apartment has been searched and he has been placed in 48-hour detention on the orders of the Special Prosecutor’s Office for High-Tech Crime, prosecutor Branko Stamenkovic confirmed for the Association of Serbia’s Journalists (UNS).

Stamenkovic said the suspect will be questioned by the prosecutor in connection with the criminal offense of threat to personal safety.

Two days ago the daily Danas received threats via Facebook in a comment on its article entitled “What is the role of the SPC (Serbian Orthodox Church) in the tragic events in Kosovo.”

“There won’t be any mention of them once they are burned down,” wrote one of the commenters to Danas’ post on Facebook.

Danas editor-in-chief Dragoljub Petrovic filed a criminal complaint against unidentified persons that the Prosecutor’s Office and the police acted on, while UNS requested that the Special Prosecutor’s Office for High-Tech Crime identified those responsible and initiate proceedings.
