The United States and Western partners do not agree with the Declaration that was adopted by the governments of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Republika Srpska (RS) entity on June 8 as part of the "All-Serbian Parliament", US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier said.

In the Declaration on the Protection of National and Political Rights and the Common Future of the Serb People, which has 49 points, Kosovo is mentioned as an „inalienable part of Serbia.“

„I didn’t have the opportunity to read all the reports related to the ‘All-Serbian Parliament’, but I understand that language is used that says that Kosovo is an integral part of Serbia. I understand that’s their position, but it’s not the position of any of us, it’s not the position of the US, our Quint partners or anybody else,” Hovenier said.

At the international conference „Rugova and the West“ which is being held in Pristina on June 10 in honour of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Kosovo, he pointed out that the US recognized Kosovo as an independent state and that it will proudly stand behind that position.

The Parliament, as stated in the Declaration, supports Serbia’s efforts to preserve territorial integrity and sovereignty, guaranteed by international law, Resolution 1244 and other resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

The document states, among other things, that Serbs in Kosovo, like all other citizens who are loyal to Serbia, must protect monasteries, churches, private properties, cemeteries and other endangered objects.

It also says that Kosovo is one of the determinants of the national identity of Serbs, and insists on using the name Kosovo and Metohija.
