Representatives of the Serb List told US Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Western Balkans Alexander Kasanof at a meeting in Pristina that his country should take a more active role in protecting Kosovo Serbs’ rights and insist on the honoring of the Brussels agreement, especially regarding the long-delayed formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities, which they have been waiting for for 11 years.
Kasanof’s visit to Kosovo included separate meetings with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani and Prime Minister Albin Kurti on Thursday, who stressed Kosovo’s aspirations for NATO membership and their constructive approach to dialogue with Belgrade, KoSSev reported.
The American diplomat on Friday visited northern Kosovo, where he met with civil society representatives.
However, his meeting with Serb List leaders, headed by Zlatan Elek, took place in Pristina, and was also attended by US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Hovenier.
“The regime in Pristina violates even its own regulations”
The Serb List said it pointed out the Kosovo Serbs difficult position, which they said was a result of the actions of Pristina authorities.
“The Serb List representatives highlighted the extremely difficult situation of the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija due to unilateral, escalatory, and anti-Serbian actions taken by Albin Kurti’s regime aimed at expelling everything Serbian,” they said. (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province)
They told Kasanof that Kosovo Serbs are being denied all rights, that Pristina wants to “halt their lives,” and claimed that the Pristina regime “violates even its own regulations just to harm Serbs.”
The Serb List urged the US to step up its involvement in protecting Kosovo Serbs’ rights and push for the implementation of the Brussels agreement, with a focus on establishing the Community of Serb Municipalities, “which they have been waiting for for 11 years.”
