Antony Godfrey, the US ambassador to Serbia, said on Tuesday that the increasingly stronger economic ties between the two countries were one of the most powerful aspects of bilateral relations
Ahead of the ‘Serb-American Trade and Investment Relations’ gathering, the ambassador said that it could show how deep the trade relations between Serbia and America were and how great US importance was for Serbia’s economic future.
The head of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Serbia, Zoran Petrovic, said Serbia-US trade relations were improving in the last several years, especially in services.
AmCham, he said, had over 200 members who had so far invested more than 14 billion Euro in Serbia’s market and employed nearly 100,000 people.
Petrovic added the investment climate in Serbia had been better in the last years and that a high level of foreign direct investments (FDI) in the GDP supported its growth.
However, he said there were some obstacles, “primarily in the rule of law, public management efficiency, judiciary and some procedures,” adding, “we should all work together to improve the economic results and attract more US investors to the region and first and foremost to Serbia.”
Serbia’s Chamber of Commerce head Marko Cadez said that his country’s economy would benefit with continued practice of preferential relations and the avoidance of double taxation.
