US senator: I am alarmed by attacks on CRTA, Vucic must investigate irregularities

"I am alarmed by the intimidation of the Serbian civil society organization CRTA in response to their important election observer mission. President Vucic must deal with the issues raised by the OSCE regarding democracy in Serbia and not divert attention from it with attacks on democratic activists," Cardin wrote on the X network.

Along with his post, Cardin also wrote the post of the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia, Emanuel Giofre, on the same social network. He wrote that "the pressure on non-governmental organizations in Serbia dealing with elections makes their work difficult, which is contrary to the values of a democratic and pluralistic society and must stop," Voice of America reported.

International observers led by the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) stated in a preliminary report that irregularities were observed on the day of voting, but also that the election conditions favored the authorities and were not equal for all.

CRTA announced shortly after the vote, that, based on its findings, the results did not sustain the will of the citizens. CRTA made allegations about the migration of voters from other cities who voted in local elections in Belgrade, as well as "voter cloning", i.e. registering voters at several polling stations at the same time.
