USAID marks 20 years of partnership with Serbia, aid worth $ 882 million

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) marked on Friday two decades of partnership with Serbia, during which it invested 882 million dollars in support of the country's economic and democratic development as a part of the 1.2 billion dollars of total aid of the US government in that period.

In cooperation with Serbia's Government, the private sector and civil society, USAID has implemented thousands of activities to improve living standards, create new jobs and support Belgrade's efforts to join the European Union, USAID said.
Existing USAID programs help Serbia's economy be more competitive, strengthen the rule of law, improve the capacity of state institutions to serve citizens, support free media and civil society, and help fight corruption.
USAID added it also provided more than nine million dollars in assistance to Serbia to cope with the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The assistance included purchasing ambulances, medical equipment and test containers, cooperating with Serbia's Red Cross and UNICE to help the most vulnerable families cope with the crisis.
"USAID is proud to mark this significant jubilee and celebrate twenty years of partnership between the American and Serbian people. The USAID Mission has implemented thousands of projects in all parts of Serbia to help citizens achieve positive change and great ideas, create new jobs, and develop local communities. We continue to create together in the period ahead," Susan Fritz, USAID Mission Director in Serbia, said.
