Stefan Veljkovic of the Serb Democracy party said this party’s leader, Aleksandar Arsenijevic, has been detained for 48 hours in South Mitrovica in Kosovo.

“He was told it is because he whistled at the illegitimate Mayor (of North Mitrovica) Erden Atiq and his entourage - and that he would face trial after 48 hours,” Veljkovic wrote in a Facebook post.

“Aleksandar insisted that we don’t organize protests for now. It is an understatement to say this is police repression and institutional violence against anyone who speaks out against (Kosovo Prime Minister) Albin Kurti’s brutal force and his ultranationalist, anti-Serb government. But they need to know: The people will prevail,” wrote Veljkovic.

Arsenijevic was released last week from a previous arrest in Kosovska Mitrovica for disturbing public order. He was held in custody for blowing a whistle when the mayor of the Serb-majority North Mitrovica, Erden Atiq, made an appearance.

Arsenijevic has been detained several times in recent weeks for similar actions.
