Zeljko Ivanovic, a founder and journalist of the Montenegrin daily Vijesti, is the winner of a Freedom of the Media Award presented every year to media professionals by the Transantlantic Leadership Network (TLN), a well-known Washington political institute.

At the National Press Club in Washington, on September 17, 2022, Ivanovic will be one of the six laureates and will receive an award in the category of commentary and criticism, Vijesti reports.

The Award for Commentary and Criticism is presented for incisive coverage of cultural and political issues with which societies grapple, including racism, religious prejudice, sexual abuse, and loss of public trust in institutions.

In addition to TLN representatives and American diplomats, the 2022 TLN Freedom of the Media Award jury also comprises prominent editors and authors of leading American and European media, such as Newsweek’s Peter Roff, Doug Saunders of The Globe and Mail, Shaun Waterman who has worked for the BBC, United Press International and POLITICO , Anne-Elisabeth Moutet of The Telegraph and UnHerd in London, Klaus-Dieter Frankenberger who was the Foreign Editor of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and others.

Following the award ceremony, the TLN is organizing a two-day conference on media freedom at which Ivanovic has been invited to speak.
