The European Parliament (EP) Rapporteur for Kosovo, Viola von Cramon, said on Tuesday the Serb voters had limited options for electing representatives due to the Serb list domination on the political scene within the Serb communities.
Von Cramon, who observed Sunday’s local election process in Kosovo as a member of the EP delegation, said that „some systematic issues identified in previous missions have not yet been addressed. I want to express my concern again about the narrowing of the political space for the Serbs. We noticed a large presence of the Serb List, which limited competition between political parties and some interlocutors also reported pressure.“
„That is not good for democracy in the north, and it cannot be left aside,“ she added.
Von Cramon said the Serbs, like all other citizens of Kosovo, deserved democratic standards.
She added the campaign was competitive among the Albanian parties and that Kosovo could serve as an example of pluralism and electoral standards in the region.
„Observing the local elections helped us understand how democracy is developing and deepening in Kosovo. It turned out that there were real debates between political parties. Despite the electoral competition, most political parties respected each other and adhered to their well-known speeches,“ Von Cramon said.
