VISER student assembly: Violent attack on student, doorman

The student assembly of the blockaded Belgrade School of Electrical and Computer Engineering (VISER) reported that one of its students and the school doorman were violently attacked outside the school on Monday evening.
The assembly called on all university faculties, student organizations, and individuals to gather Tuesday outside their school to demonstrate solidarity, unity, and determination in the fight for student rights.
According to the student assembly, an unidentified person drew a middle finger silhouette on the school facade, apparently attempting to provoke students participating in the blockade. “The doorman and students acted quickly to stop the perpetrator but were then assaulted. The person was not acting alone, he was accompanied by several others who later arrived to assist and actively incite conflict with our colleagues,” the students said.
In cooperation with the Second Basic Public Prosecutor’s Office in Belgrade, police detained Z. Lj. (19) Tuesday morning on suspicion of violent behavior and destruction and damage of property, said the Internal Affairs Ministry. Officials said he spray-painted graffiti on the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering in Belgrade before assaulting students who intervened.
The student assembly reported that a student and the doorman sustained injuries, including bite wounds, while the assailant threatened to return and “break everyone’s heads.”
“We strongly condemn this act of violence and provocation targeting students who were peacefully expressing their views. Such incidents seriously undermine freedom of expression and the safety of all blockade participants,” the VISER students said.
