Vlajic: war in the region still going on, only it's fought with narratives

Journalist Djordje Vlajic told N1 that the "great triumph", as Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic presented the adoption of the Srebrenica Resolution at the UN, is actually "a very primitive political marketing that deals with a very serious topic".
"A very serious topic is being misused in a very bad and ugly way, trying to achieve a certain political effect, primarily in this election campaign period. We are practically constantly living in the election campaign period here
in Serbia]," Vlajic told N1.
According to him, a majority of the Serbian public is deprived of the real content and real intention of the Resolution.
"As far as I noticed while reading the Resolution, nowhere does it say that anyone, either as a nation or ethnicity, is genocidal. The Resolution calls for the end of genocide denial, glorification of those who committed genocide, and so on. It seems to me that the Government is particularly worried by the obligation mentioned in that Resolution to include Srebrenica in the educational programs," Vlajic said.
It has been almost 30 years since the end of the war in the territory of the former Yugoslavia, and there is still no reconciliation. When asked if this is an opportunity for a restart, Vlajic said that neither side has fully faced the decisions they made.
"Secondly, it seems to me that this war is still going on. It's just that in this case, the zealous nationalists, who practically started those wars, are now fighting not with weapons, but with narratives," he said.
"Unfortunately, we are witnessing that here on all sides, generations of passionate nationalists are being raised who are drowning in these narratives about victims and criminals. And essentially, there is neither an absolute victim nor an absolute criminal in the war in the former Yugoslavia, - everyone was both an executioner and victim," Vlajic concluded.
