The European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo Viola von Cramon MEP told Belgrade daily Nova that the imposing of European Union measures against Serbia depends on whether Belgrade cooperates unconditionally in the investigation into the Banjska armed incident.

She claimed that the measures being prepared by the EU are not directed against the citizens of Serbia but could cause damage to the regime. According to her, the EU has been lenient towards Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the government. The measures are on the table and the ball is in Serbia’s court but I want to be crystal clear – they are not EU sanctions, Nova quoted her as saying.

Von Cramon said that the measures are adopted and implemented by the European Commission and added that the European Parliament has no role to play in the decision. If adopted, the measures would reciprocate what is in place for Pristina – no official meetings with EU leaders and the withholding of IPA funds, she said.

There are a lot of open questions and it’s up to Vucic to provide an adequate investigation and transparency, she said and added the EU security services have to reach their own investigation conclusions.
