Vucevic: Kurti continues to make life difficult for Kosovo Serbs

Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic said Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti continues to complicate normal life for Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija (Kosovo and Metohija is the official name for what the Serbian authorities consider to be the country’s southern province).

He said that tensions are rising at the Merdare administrative border crossing between Serbia proper and Kosovo due to lengthy inspections.
The Kosovo government recently lifted its ban on the import of goods from Serbia, but only at the Merdare crossing, where the goods coming through are subject to thorough inspections. Kurti said the ban will remain in effect at other border crossings until scanning equipment for comprehensive checks is installed.
Vucevic told Pink TV that Kurti is anxious about the elections scheduled for February 9, as well as the upcoming US elections, which he said will “determine the fate of the world and geopolitics for at least four, and possibly the next ten years.”
“Kurti continues to create conditions that make it difficult for Serbs to live normally in Kosovo and Metohija,” said the Serbian prime minister.
He acknowledged that allowing goods from central Serbia to enter Kosovo is a positive step, but added that in practice, it is being implemented with difficulty, as only the Merdare crossing is open.
“Inspections are deliberately prolonged, searches are conducted at the crossing, creating tension and complicating the entry of Serbian goods into Kosovo,” said Vucevic, adding that this approach “negates what was agreed on and signed in Berlin.”
“We are waiting for the Jarinje and Brnjak crossings to open. This is a game of patience, of small moves in a big game,” Vucevic said.
