Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is due to visit Serbia on Saturday for the opening of the fast railroad between Belgrade and Novi Sad with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.

That section of railway is part of the Belgrade-Budapest international rail line. Trains will be able to reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers and hour on part of the section. Traveling time between the Serbian capital and the northern city is expected to be cut from 1.5 hours to 49 or 36 minutes depending on the number of stops. The construction of the railroad section by Russian and Chinese companies started late in 2017 and cost some 935 million Dollars.

Vucic and Orban will be traveling on the new Soko train, one of the fast trains bought for the new railway.

The Serbian authorities are planning to complete the part of the railroad to the border with Hungary in three years at a cost of 1.2 billion Dollars. The Belgrade-Budapest railway is part of China’s Belt and Road initiative as a joint Serbian-Hungarian-Chinese project.
