President Aleksandar Vucic told a meeting of his Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) that he wants support to form a National Movement for the State.

“We need to rally everyone fro Serbia, all of us who want normalcy,” he told a meeting of the SNS presidency and main board. “We need all the power of good and important people to get through these hard times,” he added.

According to the SNS leader, a higher form of organization is required to take over political activities and “leave us free to review and consider the views of people who are not in our organization and can help the country” including non-partisan figures.

He called for party support adding that he does not want to see local officials turn away prominent intellectuals who they see as competition. “Let’s be open to create the National Movement for the State” which, he said, will be “the only Serbian option, I mean the citizens of Serbia, not Serbs exclusively, which will care for the interests of Serbia”.

Vucic said new people are needed on the political scene and in the SNS. “The time has come for rejuvenation,” he said and added that the SNS Assembly will be held on May 27.
