Vucic: Can’t wait for the student list, opposition faces heavier defeat in next election

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that, should elections be held, the opposition “will suffer a heavier defeat than last time,” and that he can’t wait for the full student list of candidates to be made public.

“They will lose because they keep talking to the same people in their own bubble, failing to grasp what is happening outside it or that there are plenty of others who see things differently,” Vucic told Blic TV.
He predicted that the opposition would likely split into five or ten separate lists for “some future elections” rather than a single one, due to their conflicting political interests.
Regarding the student list of candidates, Vucic said he can’t wait for it to be released, noting that it is already known that University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic and Philosophy Faculty Professor Jovo Bakic will be on it.
Vucic calls student Jovicic a hooligan, expects 200,000 at anti-blockade rally
Vucic also announced that a rally against road blockades, scheduled for September 27, will draw over 200,000 people. He commented on protests held in several Serbian cities in support of detained student Bogdan Jovicic, whom he labeled a “hooligan,” claiming they attracted a total of just 3,150 participants.
“He was arrested because he used violence against others’ property, vandalizing premises without fear and being proud of what he did,” Vucic said of Jovicic.
Student Jovicic is suspected of violent conduct at sporting events or public gatherings. He was arrested after incidents outside the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) offices in Novi Sad and is currently in the Prison Hospital in Belgrade, having started a hunger strike.
Vucic claimed that over the past 10 months, 24,000 protests in Serbia were held “illegally,” “without a single rally being previously reported.”
“Out of those 24,000 illegal rallies, we provided security for 23,000, a decision I initiated that is not in line with the law,” he said.
