In yet another televised appearance, this time on Happy TV, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic compared the construction of the Belgrade Waterfront and Belgrade-Novi Sad high-speed railway line to that of the Eiffel Tower and of the first Serbian state railway.
The President said the average monthly salary in Serbia will exceed 1,000 euros in December 2025, with the average pension going up to 450 euros.
“People pushing the country forward, those who have the desire and the passion to work a little more, are exposed to ridicule, but you have to get used to that,” the daily Danas quoted Vucic as saying.
Following the release of information that EXPO 2027 will be held in Serbia, thousands of people called with ideas on what should be done and improved in the country, he said.
The President voiced concern over the fact that some people are not happy that Serbia is the organizer of EXPO and that they are sadder than the statesmen who lobbied for their countries to get EXPO.
“You have the energy of creation and construction on the one hand, and the energy of destruction on the other,” said Vucic.
It is up to the society to fight against the “not-used-to-working-hard-enough,” said the President, sending out a message that “everyone should work together.”
Serbia must build the same or even bigger infrastructure than for the Olympics, but “we will have more left after that,” he added.
Serbia was chosen hot host EXPO over the US, Spain, Thailand and Argentina, said Vucic, adding he was sorry “some people are not rejoicing at this.”
Member States of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) in June elected Serbia as host country of Specialized Expo 2027.
