Vucic: EU not accepting new members because ten countries finance all

“Last night I heard the fantasies of some who are deluding themselves into believing that they will become EU members the day after tomorrow, that is not realistic, not because they will always come up with something, but because there are objective reasons for this in the Union. Of the 27 Union members ten countries finance all the others. There are no others who can be so-called net contributors, they cannot accept new ones at present, of course they are pushing for Ukraine because its is at war and doing work for all of them and must get some incentive, but as soon as I hear remarks about rule of law, I see where it’s all going,” said Vucic.

He added that he spoke with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Charles Michel at the informal dinner organized by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens on Monday at which enlargement and the region’s European future were discussed.

Vucic said Von der Leyen and Michel reiterated the importance of the so-called growth agenda and explained that the EU is preparing for October a growth plan for Western Balkans countries, “what it is that we can do to advance our economic performance, I expect additional cash inflow for western Balkans countries,”

The President said Serbia is this year again expecting over four billion in investments “but we need to attract much more if we want to boost growth.”
