Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Monday that he was the one who made the decision to build the Belgrade Waterfront and to tear down the illegally built shacks in Belgrade’s Savamala district, and that the “complete idiots” are the ones who did not listen to him when he said those “shacks” should be demolished in broad daylight.

Private houses in Belgrade’s Savamala district were torn down illegally on the night of April 24-25, 2016 hours after polling stations closed following parliamentary elections. Masked men used construction machinery to tear down houses after taking security guards prisoner. The police refused to react to calls from local residents. Vucic said at the time that “only idiots” were capable of doing this.

“I am proud to say that I was the one who made the decision to build the Belgrade Waterfront, to tear down the illegally built shacks,” said Vucic.

He added that he is extremely proud of the Belgrade Waterfront project that has been built in the Savamala district. “We have changed the look of the city, we have brought a lot of money to Belgrade and Serbia,” said the President.
