Speaking from Uzbekistan, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said that there are ideas circulating about certain funds potentially acquiring a stake in the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), though he expressed uncertainty as to whether the United States would approve.

The US has imposed sanctions on the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS) due to its majority Russian ownership.

“All of this is torture for us, truly immense daily torture,” Vucic told the Serbian state TV (RTS) when asked if the path forward regarding US sanctions on NIS was clearer on Wednesday.

Regardless of the outcome, he said, Serbian citizens would be assured of a normal supply.

“I don’t know what the plan will be, some will attempt to make this happen, for certain funds to take over. Whether the Americans will accept it or not, I don’t know. But regardless, we have no reason to complain or lament. We are here for the people, we are here for the nation, we must ensure people’s livelihoods, we must ensure regular supplies, and we will get that job done,” Vucic said, adding that he couldn’t offer more details.
