Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Monday that all teachers were paid their full salaries in January, but that, in February, they will be paid as much as they worked.
“This is a terrible situation, because our students need to continue learning. You all received your full salaries in January, and for February, it will be based on how much you worked. How will the children continue their schooling? Are you planning to work with them in June, July, and August? Your job is to teach these kids, it is not just about giving them A’s,” Vucic told an interview with the pro-regime Pink TV.
He said he hopes the blockades will soon end, as they harm every citizen of this country and are devastating to the economy, Danas reported.
Vucic pointed out that January was the hardest month for the economy due to the road blockades.
“Who is going to pay road tolls in our country if they know they’ll be stopped?” he said, adding that everyone is now “avoiding Serbia and fleeing from here.”
The president stressed that significant challenges await Serbia regarding the Serbian Oil Industry (NIS), because “the Russians and Americans seem to be drifting further apart, as both are focused on their own interests.”
In mid-January, the US imposed sanctions on NIS due to Russian ownership of over 50 percent of the company.
