Vucic in Kyiv for summit, not at wreath-laying ceremony
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic took part in the Ukraine-South East Europe summit in Kyiv but not in a ceremony honoring the Ukrainian fallen in the war with Russia.
Vucic said he was the only summit participant who did not sign the joint declaration to continue political, military, financial and security support to Ukraine and step up pressure on Russia. The document accuses Russia of unjustified aggression on Ukraine and calls for an immediate end to the war with an unconditional withdrawal of the military from Ukraine.
Vucic said in an Instagram post that he met with President Volodimir Zelenski to discuss relations between the two countries. “We agreed to intensify bilateral contacts and more frequent meetings at top level … and mutural support on the path to Europe,” he added.
In a separate post, Vucic said he presented “5 Serbian positions, primarily consistent respect for the UN Charter and resolutions, with which we support Ukraine’s territorial integrity in the same way it supports the sovereignty of our country”.
