Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic had a phone conversation Friday with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried in which they agreed that it was in the two countries’ interest to intensify bilateral cooperation in all areas.

The two officials also discussed the resolving of the Kosovo issue, and President Vucic shared with Donfried the well-known and principled position of Serbia, said the President’s office.

Commenting the situation in the region, Vucic and Donfried agreed that the region’s progress rests on the preservation of stability, which is a priority in activities in the Western Balkans.

Donfried strongly objected to the signing of a consultations plan between the foreign ministries of Serbia and Russia, while Vucic said that Serbia respects the territorial integrity of all United Nations members, including Ukraine, yet that this principle was not honored in the case of Serbia’s territorial integrity.
