Vucic meets Jackie Chan, new EXPO Ambassador: What’s the cost?

“Belgrade has long become a new home for many world stars, and this time we have the special pleasure of hosting the famous Jackie Chan, a man whose film artistry continues to inspire all generations,” Vucic wrote.

He added that it is a great honor that “this global film star and one of the greatest cultural ambassadors in the world will represent EXPO in Serbia with his charisma and energy.”

“I am certain that as a promoter of EXPO 2027, he will provide strong support in presenting an event that will place our country at the center of global attention and bring the spirit of play that EXPO promotes in our Serbia closer to the world,” the Instagram post said.

Vreme weekly news magazine previously reported that there is no information on the cost of engaging Chan, but that, according to available sources, fees for similar activities range from 250,000 to 750,000 US dollars.

When asked about who pays and how much for EXPO ambassadors, director of the specialized EXPO exhibition Danilo Jerinic said that the engagement costs are covered by sponsors, not by the state.

In a written response to Vreme, he added that “the ambassador of the EXPO World Exhibition in Dubai was Lionel Messi, which significantly contributed to the image of the exhibition and the host country.”

Jackie Chan has been involved in global campaigns for years and has been a UNICEF ambassador since 2004, participating in initiatives for child protection, health, and the environment.

Although born in Hong Kong, where the state has suppressed demands for more democracy, he publicly praises the policies of the Chinese Communist Party and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Vreme reported that the engagement of Jackie Chan “obviously reveals the state’s intention to attract as many people as possible from China to EXPO.”
