Following talks with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said Wednesday that, in addition to energy, there are many areas in which the two countries can improve cooperation, such as the military industry, transfer of technology and joint production for third markets.

"We discussed all forms of cooperation. We are bound by a sincere friendship and there is no way anyone can turn Serbia against Azerbaijan or the other way round,” said Vucic, adding: “We support each other's territorial integrity, that is how it has been and that is how it will be."

He thanked the President of Azerbaijan for his support and understanding regarding the problems Serbia is facing and added that he feels sincere respect for Aliyev and that he was not saying this just because Serbia needs natural gas.

Vucic said the two countries’ delegations are considering opportunities for improving cooperation, primarily in the military sector, where there is a chance to jointly modernize some weapons and then jointly enter the market.

“We have to be self-sufficient. And we must keep up with the world. We have witnessed how some big and strong countries can lose a great deal of power in very little time, how sanctions can be devastating. And we have to be ready to preserve our countries,” said the Serbian President, adding that every time he comes to Azerbaijan he sees immense progress.

Aliyev: Serbia developing as a result of Vucic’s visionary policy

Following his meeting with Vucic, President Aliyev said that there are opportunities for further cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan because both countries pursue an independent policy, maintain close contact and rely on their own resources.

Vucic is paying a working visit to Azerbaijan on Wednesday during which he also met with the Minister of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Madat Guliyev.

Aliyev added that Serbia is developing comprehensively in many fields as a result of Vucic’s visionary policy.

The two countries are strategic partners, said Aliyev, adding that they have always supported and continue to support each other’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

“We want our bilateral relations to develop rapidly and the decisions made to be implemented without wasting time,” added Aliyev.
