Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday that he is offering the opposition what he called an advisory referendum to gauge public opinion about his rule, the Serbian state TV (RTS) reported. Pročitaj više
“Just ask for an advisory referendum since you’re saying that the young are with you, the old are with you, the people are with you. So if the people are with you, an advisory referendum,” Vucic told reporters in Freiberg where he discussed lithium mining projects with Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
Vucic added that if the people vote in favor of his dismissal he would step down the very next day.
He said he will never hand power over to the opposition. “The entire government can resign. I don’t believe that could happen but if it did I would not give them the mandate (to form a government). Not as long as I live,” he said.
Vucic denied saying that someone tried to kill him. “I said that I told them if they want that they have to do it with me…. I offered two options, one democratic, one not. The undemocratic option is to kill someone,” he said.
