Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said, commenting on the warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin under the charges for war crimes issued by the International Criminal Court, that he thinks it is a decision “that will have bad consequences politically, which will have bad consequences in human lives and which says that there is a great reluctance to discuss peace.”

“My question is ‘now you have accused him of the most serious war crimes, who are you going to talk to now’,” Vučić told reporters at the presidency building, where he addressed the public on the occasion of the latest round of talks between Belgrade and Pristina, in which both sides accepted the Annex to the Agreement on the normalization of mutual relations.

He said that “there is no doubt that the goal of those who did this is to make it difficult for Putin to communicate, so that everyone who talks to him is aware that he is accused of war crimes, to make Russia’s economic situation even more difficult, to make it a world pariah.”

When asked what Serbia would do as a signatory to the Rome Statute, which established the International Criminal Court, in the event that Putin came to Serbia, that is, whether Serbia would arrest and extradite him, Vucic said that it was “a pointless question, because it is clear that as long as the conflicts continue Putin has nowhere to go.”

He added that he did not even arrest those wanted by the ad hoc tribunal, “which is not the International Criminal Court.”

“We have better things to do at this moment, unless Rade Basta thinks otherwise,” said Vucic, hinting the statement of the Minister of Economy, who said recently that Serbia should impose sanctions on Russia.
