President Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday that the Serbian military’s lack of personnel will have to be solved by raising salaries.

Speaking during a tour of an exhibition of weapons and equipment organized as part of the National Unity, Freedom and Flag Day, Vucic said that the country has to take care of its weapons systems in order to remain independent. He added that Serbia has 25 more helicopters today than it had a year ago.

More than 70 percent of military personnel are from southern Serbia, the fewest are from Belgrade and Vojvodina, the president said. Southern Serbia is considered to be poorer than the rest of Serbia while Belgrade and Vojvodina are viewed as the richest parts of the country.
