Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and his Moldovan counterpart Maia Sandu agreed Wednesday in a phone conversation that the relations between the Serbian and Moldovan peoples are friendly, and that potentially outstanding issues related to the latest statements would be resolved by agreement, said a press release issued by Vucic’s office.

Vucic and Sandu expressed mutual support for the two countries’ the territorial integrity and sovereignty, adding that the development of bilateral relations is beneficial for both countries.

Vucic invited Sandu to visit Serbia, while the Moldovan President invited Vucic to attend the Second European Political Community Summit due to be held in June 2023 in Chisinau, Moldova.

Serbian Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic reacted Monday to Sandu’s statement that Russia was planning to topple her government with help from foreigners, including Montenegrin and Serbian nationals.

The Moldovan authorities denied entry into the country to a group of Serbian nationals who traveled to Chisinau for a football match between the Belgrade-based Partizan FC and Moldovan Sheriff Tiraspol FC on February 16, hours after Moldovan President Maia Sandu claimed Russia was using foreigners to stage a coup.

Fighters from a Montenegrin boxing club were also banned from entering Moldova for an international boxing tournament following allegations that saboteurs from Montenegro, among others, could be part of an alleged Moscow coup plot.

Dacic requested that the Moldovan state authorities supply all information regarding this matter, adding that Serbia has no information supporting such allegations.
