“We will not allow anyone outside or in the country to topple our state. They can walk around all they want, that’s not going to be anything,” he told a gathering of his supporters in central Belgrade, alluding to the student protests which have shaken up the country over the past 5 months.

The 2-day gathering under the name We Won’t Give Up Serbia was intended to form Vucic’s Movement for the State and the People.

Vucic demanded proceedings to be launched by prosecutors to establish order with full respect for the constitution and laws, security for the state and its citizens, the return of institutions which he claims have been captured including the state TV (RTS) which Vucic said is a key participant in the colored revolution. He also demanded accountability under the law for everyone who took part in alleged vandalism and assaults on peacefully assembled people especially in Nis on March 21 when ruling party officials were due to meet in Nis but were pelted with eggs and water by protesters.

He also demanded that every student be allowed to go to classes and the preventing of every activity which paralyses the economy and prevents people from getting their every day activities done and the protection of the state for vital living interests.

Vucic’s followers started leaving the enclosure in front of the Serbian parliament as he was speaking. Traffic cameras showed large numbers of people making their way back to the buses that brought them to Belgrade.

Several attacks on media crews and opposition officials were reported. An N1 reporter had a water bottle thrown at her, hitting her on the leg, an Al Jazeera crew were prevented from recording the gathering from a balcony, and an official of the Go Start opposition party was assaulted by a security guard who tried to take his camera after he recorded security guards preventing people from leaving the enclosure.
