“If a gathering is banned, it is banned,” he told the media in the Presidency building. He recalled the view of the authorities that the security requirements are not in place to hold the event, adding that the organizers have to understand that and find other ways to fight for their rights instead of insisting on the gathering at any cost.

“There will be no fights and no conflicts,” Vucic said. He said anyone who wants to start violence will be arrested.

The pride parade is a problem that Serbian society will face in future because every political option has an exclusive stand on the issue.

Viola von Cramon MEP told Nova.rs that the Serbian authorities are obliged to allow all citizens to exercise their human rights without fail. The European Union insists on tolerance and respect for diversity and feels that human rights are of fundamental importance. Serbia as a country that wants to become an EU member has to show readiness to stick to the values the EU promotes, she said.

Vucic said that “it’s sad if someone who supports the event feels that EuroPride is as important as Kosovo”.
