Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told the rally in central Belgrade on Friday that he is stepping down as leader of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS).
This is my last day as leader of the SNS. Tomorrow someone else will take over but I will remain a member of the party, Vucic told the dwindling crowd standing in the torrential rain.
Vucic has headed the party since 2012 when his predecessor Tomislav Nikolic resigned after being elected president of Serbia.
He said he would launch a movement to save the country over the next 2-3 years which will be crucial for Serbia.
