Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he told US State Department Counselor Derek Chollet that any kind of formal or informal recognition of Kosovo’s independence and its membership in the UN are “the red lines” that Belgrade will not cross.

Vucic said he discussed with the US diplomat on Thursday in Belgrade the so-called Franco-German plan for Kosovo.

“We pointed to what we already submitted in our non-paper to the authors of this paper,” said Vucic, adding that any kind of formal or informal recognition of Kosovo’s independence or allowing its membership in the UN is something “that we do not want to and cannot discuss, and that is an integral part of that plan. We can talk about everything else, and I’m not saying it’s good.”

The Serbian President said he was grateful to the US administration for insisting on the implementation of reached agreements, including the formation of the Community of Serb Municipalities (CSM), but added that “it is impossible to make progress with someone constantly citing their legal acts.”

“When you insist that something has to be in line with, as they say, Kosovo’s Constitution, why then did we negotiate, what did we negotiate about?” said Vucic.

Vucic added that the question of what the CSM should look like “primarily” has to do with the Kosovo Serbs but, as he said, also with the managing team and with the Albanians.

“It’s good that it is now clear the CSM has to be formed,” said the Serbian President.
