Vucic: Students won’t talk, SNS loyalists meet

Speaking live on the pro-regime TV Prva on New Year’s eve, Vucic said that the students have no arguments on their side.

He added that he is not afraid of an attempt to overthrow him by force, saying he is not scared “of some new Apis”, an allusion to a Serbian Royal Army colonel who tried to overthrow the royal family at the start of WW 1.

According to Vucic, an attempt to stage a coup d’etat failed on November 3, just two days after the Novi Sad Railway Station tragedy when a major protest was held in that northern Serbian city.

Vucic confirmed that a meeting of an SNS loyalist faction had been held on Tuesday, adding that he would be handed their conclusions on Wednesday. He said the 17,000-strong loyalist faction includes the men who beat up opposition leader Dragan Djilas are part of what he said is a loyalist faction of the ruling party.

He said his brother Andrej is part of the loyalist faction who are staunchly opposed to any kind of colored revolution and are prepared to fight. “You saw some of those young men opposing (opposition leader Dragan) Djilas,” he added, recalling the recent incident when Djilas confronted a group of SNS activists putting up posters accusing him of stealing and getting beaten up for his efforts.

The loyalist faction has warned everyone who want to oppose the president that they won’t have any support in the party. He said the meeting started in a small church as is their custom. According to him, they once took a blood oath not to stand with any of the democratic parties which they called yellow scum. “None of those people ever quit and they always fought fiercely against trends coming from the western intelligence sector. They are mainly pro-Russian and when I say pro-Russian I mean for an independent, free Serbia,” he said.
